Assignments
There will be a specific home work assignment given each week. The assignment will include:
a) Special Lesson Material
b) Tone Development
c) Scales and Technique builders
d) Band Music
Practicing
Daily home practice of 60 minutes per day is recommended for steady improvement and highest performance. It is your responsibility to set up a sufficient practice schedule and location conducive to studying your instrument. The music suite is opened before and after school, so if you play a large instrument you may use this as an opportunity to practice at school. Continuous evaluation will identify students not practicing on a daily basis.
Instrument Maintenance
It is expected that all instruments be kept in good playing condition. I can repair many minor problems, so please bring the instrument to me first. If I can not fix it, I will advise you as to the best course of action. If a repair shop is necessary, please inform me of the return date of the instrument.
It is important to have your instrument checked every 6 months and overhauled every 3-5 years. Please plan your instrument maintenance during vacation time.
Rotation Lesson Classes and Band Rehearsals:
There are two primary functions of a rotation class:
a) It is the teacher’s opportunity to teach new skills and refine already existing ones
b) It is the student’s opportunity to demonstrate how well he or she plays, particulary in relation to the assignment which was given
-There is a rotation lesson class each week on a four period rotation basis. Students are required to attend all rotation lesson classes each quarter. Make up classes will be given on a rotating basis approximately once every three weeks for anyone in need.
-Extra help will be gladly offered to any student requesting my assistance. Please see me to arrange an appointment.
-At 11:47 a.m. the bell rings to start 7th period. I am requesting all students to be warmed up and ready to rehearse by 11:50 a.m. Please make every effort to be on time for class. Two lates will count for one cut. Please understand that your grade will be lowered after two cuts.
-In order for us to get the most out of our time together, I am requesting your undivided attention and maturity while I am on the podium. This professional demeanor will allow us to create a professional sounding performance for all of us to be proud of. Disrupting rehearsals or rotation classes will not be tolerated and will be dealt with in the following:
1st time: Warning
2nd time: 0 for the day and a call home
3rd time: Detention
4th Time: Possible removal from the group will be determined after a parent/teacher conference.
-No gum, food or drink is permitted in the rehearsal. This will avoid expensive damage to the instruments.
-Electronic devices (Cell Phones, iPods & other music players, etc.) are not to be used during class time. (Instrument tuners are okay though…)
-If you have lunch during a location class, please bring a bag lunch so that you can eat during the last few minutes of class.
